D6 ENERGY & PROCESS ASSESSMENT PROTOCOL

D.1.2 Roofs

D.1.2.1 Poorly Insulated Sloped Roof (Waste)

Figure D8. Poor sloped-roof insulation.

Excessive heat losses and gains due to roof low R-value can result in in-
creased sensible load on heating and cooling systems. Cold radiation in winter
and warm radiation in summer can impair comfort conditions. (Figure D8
shows examples of administration, maintenance, and hangar buildings.)

Figure D9. HVAC equipment installed in an
attic.

When HVAC equipment and ducts are located in the attic (Figure D9),

high surrounding temperature results in poorer equipment performance and
heat gains to supply and exhaust air ducts and chilled water pipes.
