G.14.1 Blower Door
The blower door can create a pressure differential to allow air movement
through leaks in the air barrier system. Minimal pressures as little as 10 Pa will
provide patterning provided the air is at a different temperature then that of
the surface. Determine the airtightness of the building envelope as described
in appendixes.
If the building volume is too large when compared with the effi ciency of
the blower door equipment, the existing ventilation system may help provide
a pressure difference.
In large buildings, sectioning the building and pressurizing each section
may be necessary.
Pressure conditions between indoor and outdoor must be measured in var-
ious ventilation control adjustments.
G.14.2 Ventilation and IAQ Measurements
The air fl ow rates (air supply and exhaust) are measured, if possible, to com-
pare requirements and plans:
Main fl ows over the fans by tracer gas or Bernoulli-applications
■
From the supply units and vents by anemometers
■
G.14.3 Relative Humidity Measurements
Air leaks (uncontrolled ventilation) in normal conditions can be evaluated from
leak curve by the blower door test. Results can also be achieved using tracer
gas tests (concentration decay method). The difference measured from ex-
haust vents and the total rate of ventilation by tracer gas method gives the leak
ventilation.
G.14.4 Moisture Measurements
The surface moisture of materials (penetrating or nonpenetrating mois-
■
ture meters).
Moisture measurements of brick and concrete materials (penetrating
■
moisture meter or specialty concrete meters)
