D.1.4.3 Gaps/Leaks in and around Window Frames (Waste)
Figure D20. Examples of poorly sealed window-frames.
Excessive heating and cooling losses due to air leaks through poorly sealed
window frame or a breakdown in the connection/seal around the window
frame, resulting in increased sensible and latent load on heating and cooling
systems (Figure D20). Minor leaks can be fi xed by caulking the window around
its frame and weatherstripping. For the information on air leakage pathways
and their sealing, see Appendix E.
D.1.4.4 Signifi cant Wall Area of Industrial Building Is Filled with
Single-Pane Windows (Waste)
Excessive heat losses and gains due to windows with a low R-value (Figure
D21) can result in increased sensible load on heating and cooling systems.
Figure D21. Examples of industrial facilities
with the excessive wall area fi lled with single-
pane windows.
