Malfunction Indication Possible cause Remedial action
Starter con-
tinues to turn
after switch
has been
released. Noise of starter
turning. Preheat/starting switch
does not return auto-
matically from position 2
to position 1. Reset the preheat/start-
ing switch to 0 by force
if necessary and renew
it. If this is not possible,
dis connect the battery
immediately.
Warning!
If this action is not
taken within 2 - 3
minutes, the starter
will overheat and burn
out.
Engine starts
reluctantly or
not at all
although
starter turns
quickly. Defective preheat
sys tem (this is only
of significance at
temperatures below
-10°C). Check the preheat
circuit, renew defective
parts if necessary.
