TROUBLESHOOTING
STARTING
•Check the engine oil level before troubleshooting.
Cranks
Does not crank
Wet
Spark
No spark
Dry
Fuel
No fuel
Normal
With starter motor:
Turn the combination switch to the START
position and check whether the engine
cranks.
Perform the spark test.
Check the spark plug.
Loosen the carburetor drain screw, and
check the fuel flow from the fuel tank.
If spark plug is correct, clean and dry the
electrodes, and then restart the engine,
taking care that the choke valve is not closed
too much.
If the engine does not start and the electrode
are wet again, check the carburetor float
valve.
Perform the IGNITION SYSTEM
TROUBLESHOOTING
Perform the STARTING SYSTEM
TROUBLESHOOTING .
Disassemble the carburetor to clean the
carburetor ports, jets, and nozzles
.
Check for clogged fuel filter, fuel tube, and
fuel strainer screen .
Without starter motor:
Pull the recoil starter and check whether the
engine cranks.
Check the recoil starter.
- If the recoil starter operates correctly when
removed but is hard to pull when installed on
the engine, check the decompressor
operation of the camshaft.
- If the recoil starter operates correctly when
removed but cannot be pulled when installed
on the engine, disassemble the engine and
repair or replace the faulty part (s)
.
