b. Joystick Assembly Installation
1. Install the boom lift/lower, extend/retract joystick
assembly (Fig. 4-20, 2) through the front hole in the
side console panel. Secure the joystick assembly
with four button-head capscrews (1). Install the
attachment tilt/frame sway joystick assembly
(Fig. 4-20, 4) through the rear hole in the side
console panel. Secure the joystick assembly with
four button-head capscrews (3).
2. Connect control cables at the joystick:
a. Position the boom extend/retract cable
(Fig. 4 -19, 6) in the bracket on the joystick
assembly as recorded during removal.
b. Insert the ball end of the cable (Fig. 4-19, 6) into
the threaded bottom of the plunger (2).
c. Apply Loctite
®
242 (blue) removable threadlocker
to the threads of the cable sleeve nut
(Fig. 4-19, 3). Loosely thread the cable sleeve
nut (3) into the threaded bottom of the
plunger (2).
d. Activate the control lever to expose the flats
(Fig. 4-19, 1) on the plunger (2). Place an
adjustable vise grip on the flats to hold the
plunger in place, and tighten the cable sleeve
nut (3) to a maximum of 55 lb-ft (75 Nm).
DO NOT over torque the nut.
e. Remove the adjustable vise grip and allow the
control lever to return to the neutral position.
f. Hand tighten both jam nuts (Fig. 4-19, 4 and 5)
against the joystick bracket so that the control
lever stays in the neutral position.
g. Fully tighten the jam nuts (Fig. 4 -19, 4 and 5)
with two wrenches to assure the boom extend/
retract cable (6) stays in adjustment with the con-
trol lever in the neutral position.
h. Verify joystick operation works smoothly. Adjust
jam nuts (Fig. 4 -19, 4 and 5) as needed.
i. Repeat Steps a-h to connect the boom lift/lower
(Fig. 4-19, 7), attachment tilt (8) and frame
sway (9) control cables.
3. Connect the battery negative (-) cable.
4. Start the engine.
5. Test the boom extend/retract and boom lift/lower
joystick (Fig. 4 -20, 2) function:
a. Move the joystick handle rearward, activating the
boom lift function. The boom should RISE.
b. Move the joystick handle forward, activating the
boom lower function. The boom should LOWER.
c. Move the joystick handle to the right, activating
the boom extend function. The boom should
EXTEND.
d. Move the joystick handle to the left, activating the
boom retract function. The boom should
RETRACT.
6. Test the attachment tilt/frame sway
joystick (Fig. 4-20, 4) function:
a. Move the joystick handle rearward, activating the
attachment tilt function. The attachment should
TILT DOWN.
b. Move the joystick handle forward, activating the
attachment tilt function. The attachment should
TILT UP.
c. Move the joystick handle to the right, activating
the frame sway function. The vehicle should
FRAME SWAY RIGHT.
d. Move the joystick handle to the left, activating the
frame sway function. The vehicle should FRAME
SWAY LEFT.
7. Install the console panel (Fig. 4-18, 3) and secure
using four button-head screws (4).
WARNING:
DO NOT over torque the
cable sleeve nut. Over torquing the nut may
cause the control lever to stick and not return
to neutral. This could cause function run-on
resulting in load shift or loss of load. Death or
serious injury may occur if the control lever is
not operating smoothly.
