Testing Devices
This chapter provides instructions on how to use the 601PRO to perform routine
testing on permanently wired, portable and battery-powered devices, as well as
conductive surfaces and detachable power cords.
The testing devices listed below are detailed in this chapter:

1. Permanently Wired Devices
When testing a permanently wired device, follow the procedure with the device off
and then again with the device on.
Since the permanently wired device cannot be plugged into the 601PRO, the Safety
Analyzer cannot be used to modify the receptacle configuration.
To test a permanently wired device:
1. Plug the 601PRO into a nearby outlet with the same earth as the device under
test. Power up the 601PRO.
2. From the 601PRO
MAIN MENU
, select the appropriate
Class/Type
for the device
under test.
3. Connect a test lead from the 601PRO's RED input jack to the chassis of the DUT.
4. Turn the DUT off.
5. Press the Protective
Earth Resistance
key on the 601PRO top panel.
6. Select the 1Amp current source to prevent damage in case one lead is connected
to a functional earth.
7. Perform
Cal
if needed.
8. Connect another test lead from the 601PRO GREEN input jack to an earth point
on the device under test.
