6. Setting Up Communication
Entering Initial Serial and Ethernet Settings
• ‘Always’ configures the control card to respond to queries and commands even if it is
not the currently active control card.
• ‘Active’ configures the control card to respond to queries and commands only when it is
the currently active control card.
d In the ‘Rear Diagnostic Port’ section, select a ‘Port type’ and ‘Baud rate’ from the drop-
down lists provided. By default, ‘RS232’ and ‘38400’ are selected. This sets the communi-
cation parameters for the permanent serial ports on the router.

Write
to write changes to the control card, overwriting any previous settings.
8 Again from the menu bar, select ‘Window > Configuration’. The ‘Configuration’ window
appears, as shown in Figure 6-4. Using this window, enter Ethernet connection settings (i.e., IP
address and subnet) to enable communication with the router through a network.

The ‘Configuration’ window sets Ethernet communication parameters (IP address and subnet
mask) for the router control system and router.
9 On the ‘Configuration’ window, select settings as follows:
a Click
Read All
. The ‘Configuration’ window populates with the current router configuration
and Ethernet settings. Because no prior configuration is stored, many of the fields are blank.
b In the ‘Router Ethernet Settings’ section, choose the ‘Enabled’ radio button. ‘Enabled’ must
be selected to allow Ethernet communication.

Read
. Clicking
Read
reads all settings on the control card,
overwriting any changes you have entered. There is no warning message.
