5. Installation
This chapter provides information on installing UniConfig. UniConfig is an application that runs on
a PC connected to the router being configured.
Preparing for Installation
You will need a PC with the following features to install UniConfig:

Installing UniConfig
UniConfig is a software application used to configure router settings. UniConfig runs on a PC con-
nected to the router. UniConfig communicates with the router through the router’s diagnostic con-
nections.
How to Install UniConfig
1 Obtain the Router and Control System CD (SB0033) and insert in your CD drive.
2 Open the CD’s top-level directory. Then open the ‘Software’ sub-folder. Find
UniConfig_Install.exe. That is the installer. (You may copy the file to your hard drive if you
want.) Double-click the installer, either on the CD or on your hard drive.

UniConfig will not run under any
version of the Macintosh or Linux OS.
A late model Pentium-class processor, such as a Pentium III (or later) or an AMD
Athlon.
At least 90 MB of disk space.
A CD drive

MB or more RAM.
At least one RS-232 or RS-422 serial port capable of running at speeds up to and
including 115.2
kBaud. Note that many USB serial adapters do not function correctly
at higher Baud rates.
A 10baseT or, preferably, a 10/100baseT Ethernet port that can use a fixed IP address
on the same subnet as your NVISION series routers and control panels.

Mb/s Ethernet switch with at least 4 ports.
Ethernet cables (category 5 or better).
Straight-through RS-232 or RS-422 serial cable(s).
