Changing the Aging Time
The switch uses the aging time to delete inactive dynamic MAC
addresses from the MAC address table. When the switch detects that no
packets have been sent to or received from a particular MAC address in
the table after the period specified by the aging time, the switch deletes
the address. This prevents the table from becoming full of addresses of
nodes that are no longer active.
The default setting for the aging time is 300 seconds (5 minutes).
To adjust the aging time, perform the following procedure:
1. From the Home page, select Configuration.
2. Select the System menu option.
3. Select the General tab.
The General tab is shown in Figure 7 on page 32.
4. In the Configuration section of the tab, enter a new value in seconds
for the MAC Address Aging Time. The range is 0 to 1048575 seconds.
The default is 300 seconds (5 minutes). The value 0 (zero) disables the
aging timer. When disabled, no dynamic addresses are deleted from
the table, even addresses that belong to inactive nodes.
5. Click Apply.
6. To permanently save the change, select the Save Config menu
option.
