Calibration
A discussion of the internal calibration capability is presented in Subsection 4.1
Calibration. Figure 4-15 illustrates the Chan{1|2] > Calibration > submenu and Table
4-3 provides instructions for its use.

AutoCal
Pulse, Mod & Stat
Initiates the automatic calibration routine for channel 1 or 2.
(Action)
START
Do the AutoCal procedure for any of the following:
a. When the ―CH # needs Autocal‖ message
appears in the Priority Message area of
the display. This will always occur when
a ―new‖ sensor that has not been
previously calibrated on this instrument
and channel is plugged-in. It will also
occur if the auto-cal file for this sensor
has been deleted.
b. When a temperature drift warning appears
in the Priority Message area. The Model
4500B records the ambient sensor
temperature when AutoCal is run. If the
ambient sensor temperature changes
significantly, a temperature drift warning
is displayed. For sensors that have
temperature compensation tables, a much
larger ambient change is acceptable. The
warning message will clear automatically
when the temperature returns to the
normal range.
c. When the operating environment has
changed significantly since the previous
calibration.
Allow 15 minutes for the sensor temperature
to stabilize before initiating AutoCal. Connect
the sensor to the Calibrator type-N connector
on the front (or rear) panel, and press the
START key. The AutoCal routine takes up to
1-1/2 minutes to zero and calibrate both the
High and Low video bandwidths. While these

activities are in progress, the display reports Chan[1|2] > Calib
the AutoCal status on the Message Line.
When the process is finished,
―Autocal Complete‖ is displayed.
