7 Creating and Managing Software Revisions
A software revision is a list of products stored in the software archive that together are built into a
configuration revision. After you receive all required packages into the archive, plan and create
a new software revision for the target system.
Topics discussed in this section include:
•
“Checking Product Information” (page 95)
•
“Creating a Software Configuration Revision” (page 100)
•
“Managing Software Revisions” (page 107)
After you create a new software revision, proceed to

Checking Product Information
Before creating a software revision, check that all products you plan to include are compatible
with each other and that all requisite SPRs are accounted for.
NOTE:
When a Gxx SUT that contains both the heap manager products (T8431 and T1269) is
copied to the new software revision, the Heap Manager Selection dialog box is displayed. This
feature is supported only on systems running G06.29 and later G-series RVUs. After selecting the
desired heap manager product, click the Continue button to copy the SUT to the new software
revision. To cancel the Copy to operation, click the Cancel button.
Checking the Contents of Distribution Subvolumes
For a DSV received into the software archive, you can check the contents through:
•
Release Read Me files
•
Softdocs
•

in NonStop Software Essentials
You cannot use the standard Guardian utilities or the file system to view or move files stored in the
archive. The files are given unique internal file names and might be reformatted and compressed
to conserve disk space.
Checking for Recommended Software Product Revisions (SPRs)
Use the SPRCHECK command line tool to confirm whether the recommended SPRs for your current
configuration are installed on the system. SPRCHECK checks the DSM/SCM history file (syshnnnn)
and compares it to a Support Note for your RVU. For more information, see Support Note S02077.
When a new Support Note is released for your current RVU in Scout, run SPRCHECK against that
Support Note to learn if there are any new recommended SPRs or SPRs for special consideration
for the software in your configuration. SPRCHECK provides information about SPRs on your system
that were installed and are managed using DSM/SCM.
NOTE:
To run SPRCHECK, the Support Note must be in text format in either the old Support Note
format or the new format introduced in October, 2001.
Running SPRCHECK
1.
Check that you are in the ZDSMSCM volume:
> VOLUME $volume.ZDSMSCM
volume
is the volume containing the DSM/SCM TSV.
2.
Run the SPRCHECK macro:
