15 Managing the NonStop Software Management
Environment
You can perform NonStop software management tasks using NonStop Software Essentials, the
Maintenance Interface (ZPHIHMI or ZPHITMI), or Target Interface (TI), depending on the task.
Whenever possible, use NonStop Software Essentials because of its ease of use. It incorporates
most functions of the other interfaces in one application.
Topics discussed in this section include:
•
“Updating Host, System, and Target Profile Information” (page 146)
•
“Managing Volumes Used by NonStop Software Essentials” (page 151)
•
“Managing NonStop Software Management Databases” (page 155)
•
“Managing the NonSoftware Management Archive” (page 158)
Updating Host, System, and Target Profile Information
These profiles contain default information that NonStop Software Essentials and DSM/SCM use
when processing requests. These defaults reduce the amount of information the planner must enter
when performing NonStop software management tasks. To update the defaults in the profiles, see:
•
“Host Configuration (Configuration Manager) Profile” (page 146)
•
“Target System Profile” (page 147)
•
Host Configuration (Configuration Manager) Profile
To process requests, NonStop Software Essentials uses information in the Host Configuration (or
Configuration Manage) profile, such as the default tape drive and a default disk drive for exporting
files. This profile is kept in the host database. You can use NonStop Software Essentials to modify
the Configuration Manager profile.
Using NonStop Software Essentials to Update the Host Configuration Profile
The Host Configuration page allows an appropriately privileged Host Administrator to initialize
or modify the host configuration (also known as the Configuration Manager Profile in other
interfaces). The host configuration profile contains default values for things such as the default tape
drive and the default disk drive for exporting files; this profile is kept in the host database.
The page is accessed by clicking Manage Host Configuration either under the “Maintenance”
heading on the NonStop Software Essentials Home Page or from the Maintenance menu on the
NonStop Software Essentials menu bar.
