4 Configuring the NonStop Software Management
Environment
This section describes the initial configuration and initialization of host and target systems or a
subsequent adjustment. Both DSM/SCM and NonStop Software Essentials server-based components
are installed and configured with default values when you receive a new NonStop system.
The first time you use NonStop Software Essentials on a NonStop system, software is already
received into the archive and one target system, DEFAULT, already exists in the Configuration
Revisions window.
During NonStop Software Essentials configuration, use the corrective actions described in the
DSM/SCM Messages Manual to recover from any warning or error messages that might occur.
Topics discussed in this section include:

Configuring a Host or Target System
HP sets up a DEFAULT configuration on NonStop S-series systems and Integrity NonStop systems.
Use this procedure to check the default settings. As needed, update the profiles, user security, and
device defaults. Make any changes to the configuration on the host system and the physical and
logical targets on the host system before using NonStop Software Essentials to manage software.
After you make any needed changes to the configuration on the host system including its logical
target, you can:
•
to the host system.
•
Configure target systems.
•
Configure an additional system disk for adding additional logical targets (see
Alternate System Disk” (page 70)
).
•
Modify default parameters (see
“Changing Default Parameters” (page 60)
).
After NonStop Software Essentials is configured on a host or target system, you can use it to
manage the software configurations on that system. See

Confirm Required Software and Hardware
NonStop Software Essentials and DSM/SCM have basic software and hardware requirements to
install and manage software on your host and target systems. For more information, see the NonStop
Software Essentials Installation and Quick Start Guide.
Changing the System Name and Number
When you receive a new NonStop system, change the system name and number to be unique
before you use NonStop Software Essentials. Changing the system name or number after you use
NonStop Software Essentials takes substantially longer to update because the databases grow
during use.
