containing one logical target, from a central host system. The software archive must always be on
the host system. In this example:

The planner accesses NonStop Software Essentials on the host system \A either through the
CMS on which HP SIM and the NonStop Software Essentials client are installed or through a
web browser on a console with a remote connection to that CMS.

The DSM/SCM software archive stores software that has been received into the archive
through NonStop Software Essentials.

There are four databases: one for the host and one for each target. There is a target database
on the host system for its logical target, separate from the host database.

Target 1 is defined as the logical target on the host system. The host database and the target
database for Target 1 (system \A) are on the host system.

Target 2 is defined on system \B. System \B is connected to the host using Expand. The
database for Target 2 is on the Target 2 system (system \B).

Target 3 is defined on system \C. System \C is a stand-alone system, not network connected.
Information between the host and Target 3 is passed on magnetic tape. The database for
Target 3 is on the Target 3 system (system \C).
