Elevator Speed Is 0
or Erratic

The elevator speed must be between 250 rpm and 600 rpm or there will be
no flow. Elevator speed should be about 400 rpm and should not change
erratically (jumps of 75+ rpm) while the separator is running.

1. The electric header clutch must be engaged before the combine has

elevator speed (early Deere 9000 series).

Solution: Engage the header clutch.

2. The monitor is set on the wrong elevator pulses per revolution.

Solution: Press the SETUP key until “x EL PULSE/REV” appears on
the display. Refer to the initial calibration sheet at the beginning of the
Setup section, then use the top-right UP or DOWN ARROW keys to set
the pulses to the correct values.

3. The elevator speed sensor is bad or the monitor cables have a bad

connection.

Solution: While you harvest, determine whether the combine low-

elevator-shaft-speed alarm is on, indicating low or erratic elevator speed.
If it is on, at the elevator speed sensor, disconnect the monitor elevator
speed cable from the combine elevator speed sensor to determine
whether the monitor elevator speed cable has a bad connection causing
the combine low-shaft-speed alarm to come on. If the alarm is still on
with the cable disconnected, replace the elevator speed sensor.

If the alarm goes off when the monitor elevator speed cable is

disconnected or if the low-shaft-speed alarm never came on, disconnect,
inspect, and reconnect the distribution and elevator speed cable
connections.

Inspect the monitor cables for signs of pinching or cutting. Use a volt-

ohm meter to check for shorts and continuity in the elevator speed cable,
distribution cable, and cab cable. Refer to the Reference section for the
pinouts of the monitor cables when you check for shorts and continuity.
