3. Creating an HDLM Environment
115
• Although disk partitioning and system backup functions are supported for disks
in a YaST2 system, the combination of YaST2 and LVM is not supported.
• When you execute an LVM-related command such as
pvscan
or
vgscan
, a
CD-ROM IOCTL command might be sent to each device in the OS. The IOCTL
is available only for SCSI devices. You do not need to enter information for the
IOCTL when installing HDLM because HDLM devices are not SCSI devices.
HDLM rejects the IOCTL request and assumes that the IOCTL processing has
failed. The error message (KAPL05023-E) is output to the syslog, but HDLM
operations are not affected.
This message is also output in the following cases, but HDLM operations are not
affected:
• You execute the utility for collecting HDLM error information
(
DLMgetras
).
• The system is started.
• You execute the utility for supporting a boot disk (
dlmmkinitrd
).
(3) File Systems Supported by HDLM
When using a file system, the related programs are as follows:
• ext2 (supplied with the OS)
• ext3 (supplied with the OS)
• Raisers (supplied with the OS)
(4) Boot Disk Environments and BladeSymphony Environments Supported by
HDLM
HDLM supports BladeSymphony in any of the environments listed in
Table 3-33: Operating Environments for BladeSymphony When Using SUSE LINUX
Enterprise Server 10. For details on OSs (kernels) that each BladeSymphony model
supports, see the BladeSymphony documentation.
For details on OSs (kernels) that each storage system model supports, see the storage
system documentation.
