Binary Representation of Sample Matrix
There are actually two threshold values that can be used together to isolate a range of inten-
sity values. When the 2
nd
threshold is given a value other than 0, all pixels with values
between the 1
st
and 2
nd
threshold are white.
Setting Both Binary Thresholds
shows the sam-
ple array with the threshold set to 34 and 2
nd
threshold set to 89.

Greyscale Processing
When the software processes the data from
in greyscale mode, it looks at a
three-by-three section of pixels and compares the difference in intensity values found in the
neighboring pixels to the value of the variable Edge Strength. If the difference found exceeds
Edge Strength, the system considers the three-by-three area to be part of an edge.
cale Representation of Sample Matrix
shows the edge the system finds in the data from the
array in
if Edge Strength is set to 20. (This figure is somewhat idealized
to help illustrate the point.)
