MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING

Tensioning A/C Compressor Belt

DANGER

Stop engine and remove key from ignition before leaving operator's seat for any reason. A child or even a
pet could engage an idling machine.

1. Shut down the engine and remove the key.

2. Open the hood. Refer to

5.4.1 Opening Hood (Lower

Position), page 266

.

3. Loosen compressor mounting hardware (B).

4. Pry compressor away from engine so that a force of

8–12 ft·lbf (35–55 N·m) deflects the belt (A) 3/16 in.
(5 mm) at mid-span.

5. Tighten compressor mounting hardware (B).

6. Recheck tension and readjust as required.

7. Close the hood. Refer to

5.4.2 Closing Hood (Lower

Position), page 267

compressor towards engine to release tension.

4. Remove belt (A) from compressor.

5. Install new compressor belt (A).

6. Pry compressor away from engine so that a force of

8–12 ft·lbf (35–55 N·m) deflects the belt (A) 3/16 in.
(5 mm) at mid-span.

7. Tighten compressor mounting hardware (B).

8. Recheck tension and readjust as required.

9. Close the hood. Refer to

5.4.2 Closing Hood (Lower

Position), page 267
