- Restart the Macintosh with a different startup disk. If the pointer still
does not move, consult your dealer.
Typing on the keyboard produces nothing on the screen
Cause: The keyboard is not connected properly or its signals are not
reaching the computer.
Solutions:
- Check the connection of the keyboard cable at both ends.
- If the connections are secure and typing still yields no results, shut down
and switch off the Macintosh, unplug the keyboard and mouse cables from the
keyboard and plug the keyboard cable into the keyboard's other port. If the
problem persists, the problem is most likely in the keyboard itself.
- Restart the Macintosh with a different startup disk. If typing still does
not produce text on the screen, consult your authorized Apple dealer.
You cannot save anything on a floppy disk
Cause: The disk cannot accept information, it is damaged or locked, or the
disk drive is not working properly.
Solutions:
- If you see a message reporting that the disk is not initialized, and you
know that it has been initialized, eject the disk and carefully insert it
again. If the same message appears, the disk is probably damaged. (You may be
able to recover the information on it with Disk First Aid or another disk-
recovery program.)
- If you see a message that the disk is full, eject the disk and insert
another that has adequate space for your document, or erase some unneeded
data from the disk. If you see this message while working in a program, you
can eject the disk by choosing the Save As command from the File menu and
using the Drive and Eject buttons in the directory dialog box that appears.
- Check the disk for obvious damage to the plastic case or the sliding metal
shutter.
- Make sure the locking tab at one corner on the back of the disk is in the
unlocked position (away from the corner). See "Locking and Unlocking a Floppy
Disk" in Chapter 13 for more information.
- Insert a different disk and try saving again. If you cannot save on the
second disk, the problem may be with the disk drive.
- Before concluding that the disk drive is the problem, save your files onto
a disk in a different drive, if you have one, and then restart the Macintosh.
Try saving something with the suspect drive, using a disk you know is not
damaged. See your authorized Apple dealer if saving fails again.
You cannot eject a floppy disk
Cause: The signal to eject the disk is not reaching the computer or the disk
or drive is damaged.
