!! IMPORTANT: Do not exceed the Apple Desktop Bus power requirements when
using ADB input devices. The combined power used by all devices must not
exceed 200 milliamperes (mA). Be sure to check the power required for each
device you use and make certain that the total needed is less than 200 mA.

Connecting audio devices
You can attach an audio output device, such as an amplifier or headphones, to
the audio jack on the back of the Macintosh. The audio jack accepts a
standard stereo miniplug, like that used to attach headphones to a portable
stereo player. Sound output from this jack is two channel but not
stereophonic. In other words, the same sound is transmitted through both
channels.
Refer to the instructions supplied with your audio output device for specific
connection instructions.
You can also use the Apple Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) for
transmission of digitized sound between the Macintosh and a synthesizer or
other electronic musical instrument that supports MIDI. You connect the MIDI
interface to the modem port. For more information on using MIDI with your
Macintosh LC, see your authorized Apple dealer.
Connecting a microphone
The Macintosh LC allows you to record sounds digitally through the audio
input port by using the microphone provided with your computer. To connect
the microphone, follow the instructions in Chapter 1 of this book.
The sound input feature has a variety of potential uses. For example, you
can record a personalized alert sound (the sound your Macintosh uses when it
signals you). See "Recording and Removing Alert Sounds" in Chapter 15.
You can also purchase application programs designed to let you record, edit,
and play sounds on your Macintosh computer. See your authorized Apple dealer
for details about applications that take advantage of your computer's sound
input feature.
Adding an additional monitor
You can add a second monitor to your Macintosh LC by connecting it to a video
card installed in the expansion slot inside the computer. (See your dealer
for information on the availability of video cards for your computer.)
Before you connect the monitor to the video card, the card must be installed.
See "Installing an Expansion Card" on the next page for more information.
1. Assemble the components you need: monitor, video cable, power cord, and
the setup instructions provided with your monitor.
2. If necessary, attach one end of the video cable to the monitor's video
port.
If your monitor has a built-in video cable, skip this step.
