Setting the double-clicking speed
Macintosh system software is preset to expect a certain time interval between
the two clicks in a double-click of the mouse button. If you normally double-
click more slowly than expected, the computer may interpret your double-click
as two single clicks. Or if you normally click very quickly, two unrelated
clicks may be interpreted as a double-click.
You can adjust the interval allowed between clicks in a double-click with the
Mouse section of the Control Panel.
Follow these steps to adjust the double-clicking speed:
1. Choose Control Panel from the Apple menu.
The Control Panel opens with the General section displayed.
2. Scroll through the area on the left if necessary to locate the Mouse
icon, then click it to display the Mouse section.
The Mouse section of the Control Panel appears. The pointer (8) becomes a
crosshair (5) when you place it in the Double-Click Speed area.
