RR_TOV
Resource Recovery Time-out Value. The minimum time a target device in a loop waits after a
LIP before logging out a SCSI initiator.

RS-232 port
A port that conforms to a set of Electrical Industries Association (EIA) standards. Used to
connect DTE and DCE devices for communication between computers, terminals, and
modems.

RSCN
Registered State Change Notification. A switch function that allows notification of fabric
changes to be sent from the switch to specified nodes.
RX_ID
Responder Exchange Identifier. A 2-byte field in the frame header used by the responder of the
Exchange to identify frames as being part of a particular exchange.
SAN
Storage Area Network. A network of systems and storage devices that communicate using
Fibre Channel protocols.

SAN Switch
A switch whose main task is to connect nodes into the fabric.

SCSI
Small Computer Systems Interface. A parallel bus architecture and protocol for transmitting
large data blocks to a distance of 15 - 25 meters.
SDRAM
Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. The main memory for the switch. Used for
volatile storage during switch operation.

Sequence
A group of related frames transmitted in the same direction between two N_Ports.
