PPG Setup Menu

The channel menu is used to control the settings of the PPG-E135 when it is plugged into the
instrument. The controls are summarized in the table below.

Frequency Band – This control allows for the selection of frequency band when the internal clock
is being used. Select 2.437 to 2.875 Gb/s, 4.875 to 5.750 Gb/s, or 9.750 to 11.5 Gb/s.

Bit Rate – Enter the bit rate within the selected band. This control is not available when an internal
clock is used.

PRBS Pattern – Select the bit pattern. Choose from PRBS7, 10, 15, 23, or 31.

Mark/Space Ratio – Selects the ratio of 1’s to 0’s. The standard patterns all have a mark/space
ratio of .5. This control causes the PPG to insert additional 0 values into the data stream to
achieve the selected ratio. Ratios of 0.25 and 0.125 are available in addition to 0.5. Note that the
complement of these ratios (0.75 and 0.875) is available on the inverted data output.

External Clock – Enables the external clock input on the front of the PPG when selected. When
this control is checked, the bit rate control is inactive.
