General GPU Service Procedures
This service manual contains basic service procedures for the GPU.
Note: For additional GPU service information, refer to MDE-4447 Gilbarco Global Pumping
Unit Operation & Service Manual.
Draining GPU
Draining the GPU unit to some extent is required while opening the unit for servicing the
strainer, or removing the bypass or control valves.

To drain the bulk of the fluid from the pumping unit, proceed as follows. Residual fluid may
remain in the pumping unit.
To drain the GPU, proceed as follows:

Put an approved tray in place to collect the fuel.

The pumping unit contains up to 0.5 liters (1.1 pints or 0.53 quarts) of fluid.

If sump drainage is required, the plug on top, right, and rear of the pumping unit casing may be
removed.

Manually turn the pumping unit pulley counterclockwise to aid fluid removal.

Properly dispose of all fluid drained from the pumping unit.

After the pumping unit is drained, replace all plugs using a non-hardening UL-approved pipe
sealant suitable for the type of fluids being used.
Note: Do not use Teflon tape.
