Glossary of Terms and
Abbreviations
160/m An industry initiative extension of the Ultra160 SCSI specification that
requires support of Double Transition Clocking, Domain Validation, and
Cyclic Redundancy Check.
A
Active
Termination The electrical connection required at each end of the SCSI bus,
composed of active voltage regulation and a set of termination resistors.
Ultra and Ultra2 SCSI require active termination.
Address A specific location in memory, designated either numerically or by a
symbolic name.
API Application Programming Interface. A standard bridge (or specification)
for which software is written, allowing the passing of information and
instructions between the various parts of a computer system.
ASPI Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. A specification for a common
structured method of supporting SCSI peripherals. It provides an interface
between host adapters and SCSI device drivers.
Asynchronous
Data Transfer One of the ways data is transferred over the SCSI bus. Asynchronous
transfers are tied to control signal handshaking and are slower than
synchronous data transfer.

Bernoulli Box A high capacity data storage device that uses a removable, nonvolatile
cartridge.
Binary Code Software instructions reduced to ones and zeros that are readable by a
computer.
