Introduction
The CLI command set provides a method of communication with the library which is intuitive,
consistent, and easy to use.
You control the library by entering a command sequence using a specific syntax. The operation
defined by the command sequence is executed, and any output associated with the operation is
displayed. When the operation is complete, the command prompt is displayed and you can enter
the next command sequence.
NOTE: With firmware version 671H or later, the ESL G3 tape library also supports a fully-featured
Web Services interface to programmatically monitor or configure the library. For more information,
please see the HP StoreEver Enterprise Systems Library (ESL) G3 Tape Library Web Services User
Guide. A HW REV 2 library with an MCB2 board is required to run firmware version 671H or
later.
Accessing the CLI
The CLI is a shell that the library controller runs after accepting a network connection from a client.
Typically, a bash, korn, or sh shell is invoked when you log onto a remote UNIX/Linux system.
You can access the CLI only from an SSH terminal connected to the library using an SSH client
application (freely available on the internet); Telnet cannot be used.
You can open multiple SSH connections; the library controller will queue commands from multiple
shells. A shell limit may be imposed if the library controller is limited in resources.
The CLI requires the username and password of a local account.
Paths
You navigate through the CLI by entering names of paths or commands. The initial path is displayed
as />. As you enter each part of the path, the path changes and a different set of commands is
available. Once you reach an intended path, you can execute a command from that path.
For example, at the initial path />, enter set. The path becomes /set. Certain commands are
available. Enter drive and the path becomes /set/drive. Now the list of available commands
has further narrowed.
