30.4.1 WAN DHCP
DHCP functionality can be enabled on the LAN or WAN as shown in Figure 30-9. LAN DHCP
has already been discussed. The HomeSafe can act either as a WAN DHCP client (IP Address
Assignment field in menu 4 or menu 11.3 is Dynamic and the Encapsulation field in menu 4 or
menu 11 is Ethernet) or None, (when you have a static IP). The WAN Release and Renewal
fields in menu 24.4 conveniently allow you to release and/or renew the assigned WAN IP
address, subnet mask and default gateway in a fashion similar to winipcfg.

The following table describes the diagnostic tests available in menu 24.4 for your HomeSafe and
associated connections.

FIELD DESCRIPTION
Ping Host
Enter 1 to ping any machine (with an IP address) on your LAN or WAN. Enter
its IP address in the Host IP Address field below.
WAN DHCP Release
Enter 2 to release your WAN DHCP settings.
WAN DHCP Renewal
Enter 3 to renew your WAN DHCP settings.
Internet Setup Test
Enter 4 to test the Internet setup. You can also test the Internet setup in Menu
4 - Internet Access. Please refer to the Internet Access chapter for more
details. This feature is only available for dial-up connections using PPPoE or
PPTP encapsulation.
