Appendix A Workgroup storage
Workgroup storage cabling
Also refer to the K2 Storage Cabling Guide.
For a basic Workgroup storage system connect cables as follows:
• On the GigE switch connect cables the same as for a basic nearline K2 SAN
• On the NH K2 Media Server make one control network Ethernet connection, and
one FTP network Ethernet connection. Also make a Fiber Channel connection to
RAID Controller 0.
• On each NLE client make one Fibre Channel connection and one control network
Ethernet connection.
• Cable K2 RAID using the Nearline 10 instructions.
For a redundant Workgroup storage system, connect cables as follows:
• On the GigE switch connect cables the same as for a redundant nearline K2 SAN
• On NH K2 Media Server A make one control network A Ethernet connection, and
one FTP network Ethernet connection. Also make a Fibre Channel A connection
to RAID controller 0.
• On NH K2 Media Server B make one control network B Ethernet connection, and
one FTP network Ethernet connection. Also make a Fibre Channel B connection to
RAID controller 1.
• On each NLE client make one control network Ethernet connection. Balance
clients between control network A and control network B. Also make one Fibre
Channel connection to a RAID controller. Balance clients between controller 0 (A)
and controller 1 (B).
• Cable K2 RAID using the Nearline 10R instructions.
Workgroup storage network configuration
For basic Workgroup storage configure as follows:
• There are no Workgroup storage requirements for GigE switch configuration.
• On the NH K2 Media Server, configure GigE port 1 for the control network.
For redundant Workgroup storage configure as follows:
• Configure GigE switch configuration trunks, to support ISLs. VLANs are not
required.
• On each NH K2 Media Server, configure GigE port 1 for the control network.
Use K2Config to configure GigE ports for the FTP network.
Workgroup storage configuration
For basic (non-redundant) Workgroup storage, use the K2 System Configuration
application and follow the procedures for a Nearline 10 K2 SAN, with the following
specifications:
