OCR and OMR Profiles

The settings of OCR engines are saved in profiles. Three different types of profiles
are available:

• Page – profiles for full page recognition
• Zone OCR – profiles for zonal character recognition
• Zone OMR – profiles for zonal mark recognition

A default profile is added for each type when a new project is created. Additional
profiles can be added, and optionally set as the default profile for its type. The
default profile is used as the first suggestion when a new zone or page setting is
created.

Profiles are defined at the project level and available for all Advanced Zone Locators
within the project.

Note

: The details of setting up page or zone profiles using the default engine

(Finereader 8.0) are described below. For details about the optional Kadmos OCR
engine, see the Kadmos User Guide.

Recognition Engines

The default recognition engine for Ascent Xtrata Pro is the ABBYY ® Finereader ®
8.0 OCR engine. An additional language package for Asian languages developed by
ABBYY ® is available, but must be licensed separately. For installation, a separate
setup is provided on the Ascent Xtrata Pro setup CD.

Note

Asian languages can only be displayed when these language options are

installed for your Windows operating system.

Another OCR engine is available KADMOS 4.2 ®, developed by Recognition GmbH
that must be licensed separately. For the installation you have to run Ascent Xtrata
Pro setup once again and select this option to be installed.
