Installing a FIC
Step1 Place the router with the front panel forward.
Step2 Align the remote edge of the FIC with the slot edge, push it into the slot, push the ejector levers inward
until it presses against the FIC panel (the angles thus formed between the FIC panel and the levers
are the minimum angles).
Step3 Fix the FIC in the chassis by fastening the captive screws.
Repeat these steps to install all the other FICs.
Removing a FIC
Step1 Place the router with the front panel forward.
Step2 Remove the cables connected to the FIC.
Step3 Loosen the captive screws at both sides of the FIC.
Step4 Push the ejector levers at both sides of the FIC outward, pull the FIC out of the slot along the guides
until disengaging it totally from the slot.
Hot Swapping a FIC
The MSR 50 series supports hot swapping of FIC/DFIC. Thus, you can remove or install FICs when the
router is running.
1) Install a FIC/DFIC when the router is running.
See Installing a FIC
for the installation.
2) Remove a FIC/DFIC when the router is running.
Execute the remove slot command in user view before removing a FIC/DFIC.
You can not configure the slot now.

You can remove the interface module now.
The output information shows that you can safely remove a FIC/DFIC from the router.
If you type a wrong slot number when executing the remove slot command, you can cancel that
operation by using the undo remove slot command.
Recovered normal status of the interface module successfully.
The interface module is working in good order now.
You can configure the slot now.
Do not execute the undo remove slot command when installing a FIC/DFIC to the running router.
