14.13 Maintenance
Periodic cleaning is the only maintenance required for the SituProbe accessory.
The Viton® o-ring, located between the sample collection tube and the purge head,
should be cleaned or replaced as necessary.
14.13.1 Surface Cleaning
Probe head surfaces will eventually become fouled with aquatic and bacterial
growth from long-term contact with water samples. Surface coating of the
conductivity sensors can result in sensing errors and method termination. Coatings
on the sample collection tube and probe head may trap VOCs which could
contribute to carryover. The sample collection tube can be unscrewed from the
purge head to be cleaned with soap and water. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the
apparatus with clean water.
NOTE: To remove the sample collection tube, hold the probe head close to the
sample collection tube. Unscrew only the sample collection tube. Do not
unscrew the probe head. See
Figure 14-7 .
The o-ring can be cleaned with a lint-free cloth and clean water. Gently wipe the
electrodes and probe head surfaces with a wet lint-free cloth. Rinse thoroughly with
clean water. Regular cleaning is recommended as a preventive measure.
