C. Glossary
Breakaway Routing multiple sources, on different distinct levels, to a destination. (It is not possible to mix sources on the
same level.)
Chop Chop switches the destination between its current source and the preset source
Control point A port (Ethernet or serial) on the host computer.
Control system The software that runs on the system controller.
Current
configuration The configuration you are editing.
Dst or DST Destination
Free Source A source, usually “black” or “silence” that can be routed to a destination to free the source previously routed to
that destination.
GPI General Purpose Interface. (The term is occasionally used to mean GPI input.)
GPI O General Purpose Input Output. (The term is occasionally used to mean GPI input.)
GUI Graphic User Interface
HD High Definition (HD-SDI). Video signal rates: SMPTE 259M at 1.483 and 1.485 Gb/s .
Host The computer on which the server runs.
I/O Input / Output

Control Port-to-port routers where ports are neither input nor output, but instead, bi-directional. Used to
enable machines to communicate.
MC Master Control. Refers to the NV5100MC or NV5128-MC master control frames and to master control pro-
cessors (MCEs and MCPMs).

Multidest Multidestination
Page (1) Several control panels have displays. A display can show a fixed number of entries from poten-
tially large lists, usually 8 entries at a time. A page is an 8-entry segment of a list. Lists can be sal-
vos, destinations, levels, etc.
(2) Some control panel s have several sets of button functions. For example, the NV9605 have 4
sets of button functions. Each set is called a page.
PGSE Panel, GUI, and Salvo Editor (a previous edition of configuration software, still in use)

RCS Router Control System
RU Rack Units. A standard measure or size for frames (1.75 inches).
SD Standard Definition. Video signal rates: SMPTE 259M at 143, 177, 270 and 360 Mb/s and SMPTE
344 M at 540 Mb/s.
