2.6.1. Software Upgrades
Clavister Security Gateways are driven and controlled by cOS Core and this consists of two major
components: the Core and the Loader. Usually it is the Core which is the main concern of the
administrator since this is an executable binary and contains all cOS Core's principal
components. The Loader, as described below, is a low level firmware loader used by the Core
that is updated only with some major revisions of cOS Core.

2.6.1.1. The Core Executable
Whenever new functionality is added to cOS Core, or when defects have been found and
corrected, a new Core is produced which is the cOS Core executable binary. The new Core is
packaged as a single file which is digitally signed and made available for download from the
Clavister web site
In the distribution of software upgrades, a Core file name will indicate that it is either a x86
version designed for most hardware models or the file name will indicate a specific hardware
model. If there is a Core file with a filename related to a specific hardware model then use that
file for an upgrade. If no hardware specific version is available, use the version with x86 in the
filename.
Important: Some installation files are hardware model specific
The cOS Core installation file for some Clavister hardware models are specific to those
models and such a model-specific file will have a filename which includes the model
number. Only use the model specific files for upgrading if they exist.
The Types of cOS Core Upgrade
There are different types of cOS Core releases that will become available for performing an
