Transfer Carriage
7. Close and lock the engine compartment cover.
8. Remove the Accident Prevention Tag on both the
ignition switch and steering wheel.
c. Transfer Carriage Bearing Replacement
1. Level the vehicle, place the travel select lever in the
(N) NEUTRAL DETENT position, engage the 
parking brake.
2. Move the transfer carriage all the way forward.
3. If the vehicle has dual batteries, disconnect both
negative battery cables (10 and 11) from both 
batteries.
To access the lower battery (12), loosen the 
knob (15) far enough so that the lip (14) on the upper 
battery box clears the knob. Lift up the upper battery 
box (13) and swing it out, so that the box clears the 
hydraulic tank support bracket, to gain access to the 
lower negative battery cable (10). Disconnect the 
lower negative battery cable.
Note: When new transfer cylinder bearings (18) are 
installed in the transfer carriage, the fracture in the 
bearing race must be positioned perpendicular (16) to 
the force of the load. The fracture in the bearing face 
must be positioned at the 9 o’clock (16) or 3 o’clock (17) 
position. The 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock positions are the 
direction the transfer carriage moves forward and 
reverse on the rails and is the force of the load.
4. From under the vehicle remove the transfer cylinder
bearing (18) from the transfer carriage mount (19).
5. Replace a new transfer cylinder bearing (18) into the
transfer carriage mount (19).
6. If the vehicle has dual batteries, connect both
negative battery cables (10 and 11) to both 
batteries.
Connect the lower negative battery cable (10) to the 
negative (-) terminal on the lower battery (12). Swing 
the upper battery box (13) in and make sure that the 
lip (14) on the upper battery box slides below the 
knob (15). Secure in place with the knob (15).
