HOW JOB PRIORITY SCHEDULING WORKS IN THE CONTROLLER

The controller receives print jobs from all input ports simultaneously (network,
serial, parallel, VPI, scanner, and SCSI), assigns each job an ID and queues
the job with a priority assigned either by the operator or by the controller
default setting. The job queue is stored in the controller memory or on the
hard disk until it is processed. The operator can also assign an optional name
to each job so as to identify the job in the queue. This optional ASCII
readable job name is then used to identify the job when viewing job status
messages.

Use the Web Printer Manager Tool or AccXES Client Tools software to
display the job status information including the job queue. The job status
displayed includes a list of all jobs in the queue in their current print order, the
data format used, size, percent downloaded, assigned priority, processing
status in the printer, and the input port the job was received on.

The operator can use the software to modify the print job priority in the queue
or cancel a job. If the operator attempts to change the job’s priority after the
controller has begun processing the job, the change request will be ignored.
However, a job may be canceled any time it is in the printer. The controller
makes every attempt to respond promptly by ending any processing in
progress. Job data for a canceled job still in transit from the client to the
controller will be received and quickly discarded.

A cancel command cancels a complete job, not a page within a job. All
remaining jobs in the system are unaffected by the cancellation of any one
specific job.

The controller schedules jobs for processing based on the following
scheduling algorithm.
