To remove a DIMM card
1 Shut down the system (see “Performing a system shutdown” on page 239 ).
2 Disconnect the BCM system from the AC power outlet.
3 Disconnect any connectors from the front of the base function tray.
4 Remove the main unit cover. See “Removing the main unit top cover” on page 252 .
5 Attach one end of the grounding strap to your wrist and the other end to a grounded metal
surface.
6 Partially remove the base function tray from the main unit. Ensure you do not pinch, stretch, or
damage any cables.
7 Remove the base function tray bezel. See “To remove the base function tray bezel” on page
245 .
8 Remove the WAN card (if applicable). See “To remove the WAN card” on page 309 .
9 Detach the DS30 cable connectors from the MSC.
10 Remove the base function tray completely from the main unit. Ensure you do not pinch,
stretch, or damage any cables. See “Removing the base function tray” on page 242 .
11 Remove the media services card (see “To remove the media services card (MSC)” on page
312 ).
12 Carefully push down on the fastening tabs on either side of the DIMM you want to remove. As
you press down on the fastening tabs, the DIMM lifts out of the DIMM slot.
13 Grasp both ends of the DIMM with your fingertips. Lift the DIMM up and away from the
DIMM slot (see Figure 174 on page 325 ). Place the DIMM in a static-free container.

Warning: Protect the hardware components against damage from electrostatic discharge.
Always wear a grounded wrist strap before you handle components. Always place the
components in a static-free container.
