1.2 System Management
The system manager to be provided by the user is responsible for managing one or more
shelves. The Artesyn Embedded Technologies - Embedded Computing shelf manager ATCA-
M100 provides an interface (Hardware Platform Interface, HPI) to monitor and control the
assigned shelves.
The shelf manager which is part of each shelf, provides the information about the shelf and all
FRUs using IP to the system manager outside the shelf via out of band interface, switch uplinks,
or inside the shelf via backplane interfaces.
The communication between the system manager and the shelf manager can be based on:
 Remote HPI, an IP-based remote HPI communication protocol
 Remote Management Control Protocol (RMCP)
