Command Syntax

Command Tree

The SCPI standard is an ASCII based standard that
defines the command syntax and structure for
programmable instruments.

Commands are based on a hierarchical tree
structure. Each command keyword is a node on
the command tree with the first keyword as the
root node. Each sub node is separated with a
colon.
Shown below is a section of the SOURce[1] root
node and the :PWM and :PULSe sub nodes.

Command types

Commands can be separated in to three distinc
types, simple commands, compound commands
and queries.

Simple

A single command with/without
a parameter

Example

*OPC

Compound

Two or more commands
separated by a colon (:)
with/without a parameter
