operator privilege

An NDCS privilege that allows a user to perform administrative tasks, such as managing data
source configurations, NDCS services, data sources, and servers, by making changes to status
and configuration. For more information, see

“Display NDCS Privileges” (page 161)

or

“Grant

NDCS Privileges” (page 161)

.

page mode

A SQL Whiteboard feature that breaks large result sets into pages and fetches one page at a
time. To prevent out-of-memory conditions, page mode limits the amount of memory used by
the SQL Whiteboard. In page mode, only a partial result of a query is held in memory and
displayed in the Statement Details page. For more information, see

“Understand Page Mode”

(page 214)

.

persistence file

A binary file that contains state and user preference information (for example, system definitions,
user-specified options, favorites, and layout information). For more information, see

“Save and

Import System Definitions” (page 55)

.

platform user

A person or program that has access to special tools used primarily for Neoview maintenance
and troubleshooting. A platform user has exactly one platform role (with a name of the form
HP.name, SUPER.name, or NEOVIEW.name), which determines the privileges that pertain to
the user. Platform users can also log on to database interfaces but have little or no access to
data. For example, users in the role SUPER.SERVICES have no access to customer data, and
HP.VTS can be used only by the Virtual Tape Subsystem. Contrast with

database user

.

power role

The power platform role SUPER.SUPER and the power database roles ROLE.MGR,
ROLE.SECMGR, and ROLE.DBA.

power user

A member of a

power role

.

Procedure Code
File Tool

An HPDM utility that allows you to upload, download, rename, and delete JAR files. For more
information, see

“Upload a JAR File” (page 163)

.

query

A request for data from the database; specifically, the execution of a Neoview SQL statement,
which requests columns and rows from one or more tables and views. In the context of the
Neoview optimizer, a query is a request for data access through an DML statement.

remotely
authenticated
database user

A

database user

whose credentials (name and password) are maintained and validated on an

external LDAP or Active Directory server. Such a user can log on only if the external directory
server is running. Remotely authenticated database users must be registered on the Neoview
platform and assigned Neoview database roles. Contrast with

locally authenticated database

user

.

report

A SQL statement or query, along with the descriptive, parameter, and linking information that
allows the statement or query to be reused and shared with any user who has access to a utility
for managing reports. Metric Miner reports are saved as XML files with a .widget extension.

.

right pane

The right pane of the HP Database Manager interface displays information about the selected
objects in the navigation tree pane.

“See the Parts of the HPDM Interface” (page 35)

.

role

An authorization group. A role is a vehicle for assigning data-access privileges to user IDs.
Users are granted a role, and roles are granted privileges on database objects. In this way, all
the users who are granted a role are granted the privileges associated with the role. The Neoview
platform can have a maximum of 255 roles. See also

.

segment

A subdivision of a Neoview cluster that consists of 16 processing nodes (CPUs). Each segment
has a name (for example, HPQ0101), and the Neoview cluster contains one master segment.
All other segments are considered slave segments.

SQL statement

Any DML or DDL statement including, but not limited to SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE,
CREATE, ALTER, DROP, GRANT, and REVOKE. For more information about Neoview SQL
statements, see the Neoview SQL Reference Manual.

SQL Whiteboard

A utility that allows you to enter and execute SQL statements from within HPDM. For more
information, see

“About the SQL Whiteboard” (page 211)
