System Configuration for the Muting Function
Muting is the function that temporarily deactivates the SL-V safety function while the SL-V receives the signal
from the muting devices (such as sensors or switches). Output from muting devices must be connected to
the muting input terminal on the SL-V in order to use this function.
Conditions that activate the muted condition
The muted condition is activated if all of the following conditions are met.
• In case where muting input 2 turns ON within 0.04 to 3 seconds after muting input 1 turns ON.
• In case where the SL-V detects no interruption in the detection area.
• In case where OSSD is ON state and keeps staying for 0.5 seconds or more.
Conditions that deactivate the muted condition
The muted condition is deactivated if any of the following five conditions is met.
• In case where either the muting input 1 or the muting input 2 turn OFF for at least 0.02 s
• In case where the SL-V goes into a lockout condition.
• In case where wait input turns ON.
• In case where the power is not supplied or is turned on again.
• In case where 5 minutes for muting limitation has passed.
See "Muting function" (page 2-29) for details and an explanation of the muting function, as well as
cautions and warnings.
The following is an example of the muted condition while the workpiece is passing through the detection
area of the SL-V. In this example, 2 retro-reflective photoelectric sensors are used as the muting devices
(ON when the beam from the sensor is blocked). You can refer to this example if a workpiece cannot be
distinguished from a person because of the size of the workpiece.
Conditions for installation of muting device
All 4 of the following conditions must be met in order to ensure the continuous muted condition while the
workpiece is passing through the detection area.
L (mm) : The length of workpiece
D (mm) : Displacement distance between the point where the workpiece interrupts the beam.
V (mm/s) : Workpiece speed
The activation time of muting input 1 and that of muting input 2 must be between 0.04 to 3 seconds.
(1) 0.04 < D / V < 3
(2) D < L
(3) Both sensors A1 and sensor A2 must be installed where their beams intersect in the hazardous area.
(4) Both sensors A1 and sensor A2 must turn ON when the beam is blocked (Dark ON).
