AC Power, Phasing, and Grounding Guidelines
Most pump manufacturers require that the power and grounding for their control devices come
from the same panel, phase, and ground point as the pumps and card readers being controlled
by those devices.
Gasboy requires that the devices on both end of a PC Loop Application communication run
also be from the same panel, phase, and ground point. This would mean that the SC3 tower
must have it power source coming from the same panel, phase, and ground as the Gilbarco
Distribution box(s) the Tokheim 67 box(s), or the Wayne EC Cabinet(s).
Failure to meet this minimum requirement could cause spurious communication issues as well
as component failure due to AC power surges or spikes.
Communication Wiring Considerations
All PC Loop Application use some form of DC communication wiring. PC Loop Application
communication wiring must follow the general guidelines for the type of communications as
listed in the Gasboy SC3 Installation manual.
In general communication wiring cannot be run with AC wiring, intrinsically safe wiring, over
the top or along side florescent lighting or with other high current or high frequency devices
such as variable speed sub-pump controller wiring.
Gilbarco Communications
The Gilbarco pump and CRIND device uses an RS-232 to RS-485 convertor that ships with an
8-foot cable. Maximum run for the RS-485 wiring is 1000 feet using shielded wiring as
specified in the Gasboy SC3 Installation manual for RS-485 wiring. A 1:1 phone cable could
also be used for distances up to 25 feet.
