Section 1 Basic Use of this Fax

MESSAGE TEL. indicator…When this indicator is lit, the fax is in
the TAD Reception mode.

MANUAL RX. indicator…When this indicator is lit, the fax is in
the Manual Fax Reception mode. When this indicator is out, the
fax is in the Auto Fax Reception mode. Auto Fax Reception is the
default setting in this fax.

MEMORY TX. indicator…When this indicator is lit, the fax is in
the Memory Transmission mode. Memory Transmission is the
default setting in this fax. If you want to use the Direct Feed
Transmission mode, press the MEMORY TX. key until the
indicator goes out.

ERROR indicator…When this indicator is lit, a communications
error or mechanical problem has occurred.

COMMUNICATING indicator…When this indicator is lit, a fax
communication is currently in progress. When a separately
purchased telephone is connected to this fax machine, this
indicator will flash while it’s being used.

MEMORY indicator…When this indicator is lit, there are
documents in memory that are waiting to be printed or
communication that are waiting for their appointed start time.
When this indicator is flashing, documents are currently being
scanned or received into memory.

ON-HOOK key…When a separately purchased telephone is
connected to this fax machine, press this key when you want to
dial without picking up the telephone receiver.

ON-HOOK indicator…When a separately purchased telephone
is connected to this fax machine and this indicator is lit, the ON-
HOOK key has been pressed while the telephone receiver is still
“on the hook”, thereby enabling dialling without the need to pick
up the receiver.

PAUSE/REDIAL key…Press this key when the fax is in the Direct
Feed Transmission mode and you want to have the fax
automatically redial the most recently dialled number.
Press this key also while entering a fax number when you want to
insert a pause of a few seconds at that point in dialling.
A pause is indicated by a dash ( - ) in the message display.

ABBR./DIRECTORY key…Press this key when you want to dial
with abbreviated numbers or you want to access the directory.

Resolution select key…Press this key when you want to select
the degree of resolution most suitable to the documents being
transmitted. Select among the 5 available settings: Normal, FINE,
SUPER FINE, ULTRA FINE and PHOTO MODE.

Resolution indicators…Ordinarily, all of the resolution indicators
will be out; and the Normal resolution is thus selected. If you want
to use any resolution other than Normal, press the resolution
select key until the resolution indicator that corresponds to the
desired resolution is lit.

Contrast select key…Press this key when you want to select the
degree of contrast most suitable to the documents being
transmitted.

Contrast indicators…These indicators display the 3 available
levels of scanning contrast. When both of the indicators are out,
the Normal contrast setting is selected. If you want to increase
(darken) the contrast at which documents are scanned, press the
contrast select key until the DARKER indicator is lit. If you want to
reduce (lighten) the contrast at which documents are scanned,
press the contrast select key until the LIGHTER indicator is lit.

One-touch keys (No. 1 - No. 80)…80 one-touch keys are
available for use with this fax. Lower both cover plates when you
want to access one-touch keys No. 1 - No. 32, raise the top plate
in order to access one-touch keys No. 33 - No. 64 and raise both
plates to access one-touch keys No. 65 - No. 80.
You can designate each of the keys to function as either a one-
touch key, a program key, a group dial or a chain dial key. Use
these keys as well during the registration of destination names,
etc. In this case, each key will have a single function regardless
of whether either or both of the cover plates are raised or lowered.
* When entering characters, one-touch keys No. 31 and 63 serve
as the SPACE keys to enable you to enter a blank space
between characters, and one-touch keys No. 32 and 64 serve as
the CAPS LOCK keys.
