Selecting a protocol
This section explains how to set the communication protocol for the N-410. Make sure that these
settings are compatible with the communications conditions between the PLC and the host
computer.
1. PLC setting
Select "Enable" if communicating over a PLC link. Select "Disable" if communicating with the
host computer.
2. General-protocol mode settings
Set the following.
• Handshaking: "None" "PASS/RTRY" "ACK/NAK"
• Add ID: Read data in multi-head mode does not usually have the ID number of the BL/SR/RF
Series device that that read it appended. The "Add ID" setting can append ID numbers to
this data.
• Checksum: A "checksum" can be appended to the read data to ensure that communications
between the N-410 and the host computer are not corrupted. This does not need
to be done for normal operations.
• Error code setting: The error code can be set to anything, up to eight characters. It is
recommended that you use the factory default of "ERROR."
• Header/Delimiter: Input a hexadecimal number of up to 5 digits.
The factory default setting for the header is "None" and for the delimiter is "CR".
3. PLC Link setting
Make the following settings when using a PLC link.
• Enable/Disable: Select "Enable" to use a PLC link.
• DM head address: Enter a numerical value from the keyboard (0000 to 9900).
• PLC type: Select the PLC to be connected.
• Station No.: Set this to match the communication unit of the PLC (00 to 31).
• Input trigger area: Set this to send trigger input to BL Series devices over the PLC link.
