If the server stops without completing the POST, this indicates that a fatal
system error has occurred. Write down the data shown on the screen and the
number of beeps (output beep code), which will help a authorized Magnia
service provider diagnose the problem.
The POST checks the large number of memory devices in the server. Check
that their indicators light properly.
The FDD lamp for the floppy disk drive must light properly. If it does not,
refer to “FDD indicator does not light” on page 130.
The operation lamp for the SCSI device mounted in each hard disk drive or
the server must light properly. If it does not, refer to “HDD indicator does
not light” on page 130.
When the server boots, the operating system prompt displays. If this does not
happen, see “Initial startup” on page 128.
Before calling for service
If you are unable to resolve a problem, check that you have the following
information before calling an authorized Magnia service provider:
The serial number of the system unit or system cabinet
A list of the installed hardware and software components
A brief description of the problem
How frequently the problem occurs
The circumstances under which the problem recurs
Error check
When the server starts, the POST automatically executes to check the system
base board, memory, keyboard, etc.
If the POST detects an error, it displays an error message on the screen. If the
monitor fails, you will hear a continuous beep.
Initial startup
If a problem occurs while the server is starting up and check these points:
Is the power cable connected to a grounded AC outlet?
Is the AC switch on, and does the SYSTEM indicator glow amber,
indicating the AC cable is connected?
