Emergency
Management Port

The Emergency Management Port (EMP) Console provides an interface to the
Emergency Management Port called the Console Manager. This interface
allows you to manage the server remotely via a modem or direct connection.

The Console Manager uses the Event Log (SEL viewer: System Event Log) to
monitor the server. The System Setup Utility (SSU) provides access to the Event
Log on the server and can display records. See “System Setup Utility (SSU)” on
page 75.

Using the EMP function

Hardware and software requirements for the EMP console are:

Modem (Server and Client side) and standard modem cable or null modem
cable for direct connection

™

CPU: processor 486 or later, 32MB RAM recommended, 20 MB disk space

™

Operating System: Windows NT 4.0

™

EMP Console Application (Disk1/Disk2/Disk3)

Setting up the server

1 Start the CMOS Setup Utility.

2 Verify that Serial Port2 (COM2) is enabled.

3 Select Server, then System Management.
