The file system uses a volume manager other than Logical Volume Manager

The device file contains partitions

Volumes that satisfy one of the following conditions cannot be used for device file addition:

The volume manager is using that volume on a host where the Device Manager agent has been installed

The volume is mounted on a host where the Device Manager agent has been installed

The volume is being used as a command device

The volume is being used as an S-VOL for Continuous Access XP

The volume is being used as an S-VOL or SP-VOL for Business Copy XP

The volume is being used as a V-VOL or POOL for Snapshot XP

The volume is being used as an on-demand device

The Read/Write permissions have not been set in the LUN Security XP Extension function

The Auto LUN XP attribute has been set

The volume emulation type is not one of the following: OPEN-3, OPEN-8, OPEN-9, OPEN-K, OPEN-E,
OPEN-L, OPEN-M, OPEN-V

The volume size is less than 512 MB

Multiple paths are assigned to the volume without using PV-link

The volume size is greater than 1 TB

4-6-4-7 Notes on Deleting Device Files

A device file that contains partitions cannot be deleted. Also, a device file that is made up of volumes that
satisfy the following conditions cannot be deleted:

Provisioning Manager does not support the following operations related to partitions

(note that partitions can be

created in HP-UX 11i v2 (IPF) only):

Adding and deleting partitions

Adding, expanding, and deleting file systems that contain partitions

Adding and deleting device files that contain partitions

If it is necessary to perform the above operations, perform them manually, using OS commands.

4-6-4-9 Notes on Snapshot File Systems

Provisioning Manager does not support the following operations related to snapshot file systems:

Creating a snapshot file system at the same time that a file system of the VERITAS™ File System type is
created

Creating a snapshot file system for an existing file system of the VERITAS™ File System type

Deleting snapshot file systems

Expanding and deleting file systems of the VERITAS™ File System type that are to be backed up

4-6-4-10 Notes on Physical Volume Groups

Provisioning Manager does not support creation and expansion of physical volume groups that are created
during processes such as volume mirroring. If it is necessary to create or expand physical volume groups,
perform these operations manually by using OS commands.

4-6-4-11 Notes on Setting PV-link

Provisioning Manager cannot specify the following settings related to PV-link:

Specifying the type of link (primary link or alternate link) when adding each link to a volume group

Changing the number of physical volume links for created volume groups
The maximum number of links that can be made to a physical volume is 8.

Switching a primary link to an alternate link
You can manually switch to an appropriate link by using the Logical Volume Manager.

If it is necessary to specify the above settings, specify them manually, using OS commands.
