Glossary

array group

A sequential storage area that has a RAID structure. An array group contains multiple
LDEVs. An array group contains user data and parity information, which ensures user
data integrity in the event of a hard disk drive failure within the array group.

Business Copy XP

Functionality that creates a volume replica in the same storage subsystem.

CA-XP(Jrnl)

(Continuous Access XP Journal): A function for creating replica volumes, such as
Business Copy XP and Continuous Access XP. CA-XP(Jrnl) creates replicas in different
storage subsystems. This is a StorageWorks XP12000/XP10000-specific function.

CHA

An adapter for controlling the channels of a storage subsystem. A channel adapter is
equipped with a port for connecting to a storage subsystem via a cable.

CLPR

(cache logical partition): A function that partitions the cache for each logical device in a
subsystem in order to protect the cache from exclusive use by any logical device with a
high hit rate. This is a StorageWorks XP12000/XP10000-specific function.

command device

An LU used exclusively for communicating with the RAID Manager XP that is installed
on a host to control Business Copy XP, Continuous Access XP, Continuous Access XP
Journal, or Snapshot XP functionalities.

Continuous Access XP

Functionality that replicates a volume in a different storage subsystem.

copy pair

A pair consisting of a P-VOL (primary volume) and S-VOL (secondary volume), created
in the storage subsystem by the Business Copy XP or Continuous Access XP facilities.

CV

(customized volume): A volume created by dividing the following LDEV into a partition of
any size: an LDEV of the StorageWorks XP12000/XP10000, StorageWorks
XP1024/XP128, and StorageWorks XP512/XP48 whose size is determined by the
emulation type.

data path

In Provisioning Manager, the route from the HBA port on the host to the channel adapter
of the storage subsystem via its LU.

emulation type

An LDEV attribute, the emulation type is used by StorageWorks XP12000/XP10000,
StorageWorks XP1024/XP128 and StorageWorks XP512/XP48 storage systems when
an LDEV is created within an array group. The size of the LDEV is determined by this
attribute.

HBA

(host bus adapter): An adapter for connecting host fibre channels and SCSI.

host

A single physical application server unit equipped with a host bus adapter (HBA). A host
bus adapter includes one or two ports, each of which is assigned a world wide name
(WWN).

host storage domain

In the StorageWorks XP12000/XP10000, and StorageWorks XP1024/XP128, this is
called a host group.

A host storage domain is a unit used to apply LUN security that restricts a host,
according to its WWN, to access the storage. A host storage domain is assigned to each
port, and the LUN security configuration for a host storage domain is applied to all LUNs
within that host storage domain.

LDEV

(logical device): A unit of storage area created by logically partitioning a storage area
within an array group.

Linux

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3

LU

(logical unit): A unit of storage area used as an I/O access unit. You can combine
multiple LDEVs and create an LU called a LUSE volume.
