Software that cannot be used with Provisioning Manager

Provisioning Manager cannot be used on a host where VERITAS™ Volume Manager has been installed.

Host Performance

Provisioning Manager uses the Windows

®

default settings for all settings that configure the host performance.

When you want to improve host performance by specifying the parameters for the file systems and device files,
change the appropriate settings manually.

4-2-7 Notes on Using the Volume Manager RAID Functionality

You cannot configure RAID by using Provisioning Manager. Use either of the following methods to configure
RAID:

Configure RAID by using the functionality of the storage subsystem.

Configure such RAID software as stripe volume and mirror volume software by manually executing
commands such as the ones for the volume manager.

NOTE:

The use of the volume manager is limited to the online expansion for a newly-created volume (for a

span volume only).

4-2-8 Deleting a Mount Point Directory

File system mount points remain even after file systems themselves have been deleted. Use the OS command
to manually delete the mount point folder if it is no longer necessary.

4-2-9 About File System and Device File Sizing Discrepancies

In Windows

®

, when the file systems or device files are created, their sizes are smaller than the size of the

volume (LU). The reasons are as follows:

For a Windows

®

basic disk

Because this type of disk reserves 1 MB for the conversion of the disk to a dynamic disk, the total size of
the file systems or the device files is 1 MB smaller than the volume (LU).

For a Windows

®

dynamic disk

Because this type of disk reserves 1 MB for management, the total size of the file systems or the device
files is 1 MB smaller than the volume (LU).

4-2-10 Preventing Misrecognition of the Disk Number and Drive Letter

When a volume (LU) is deleted or added, the disk number and drive letter managed by the OS may change at
the time the OS is restarted. Because of this, if you perform an operation on a basic disk partition before the
host information in Provisioning Manager synchronizes the changed information, the operation may not be
performed properly.

Immediately after the OS or Provisioning Manager is restarted, verify the date and time when the host
information was last refreshed, and make sure that the changes made in the host configuration before the host
is restarted have been applied. Then, add or delete a volume.

Also for other host settings, if the information about actual configuration and the information in Provisioning
Manager are not synchronized, an error occurs. Before performing an operation, make sure that the
information is synchronized.

4-2-11 Notes on Removing a File System That Is Being Used

When you attempt to delete a file system being used, the logical volume cannot be deleted and an error
occurs.

Even if a file system being used is removed, it can be used until the host is restarted; however, it will be
unmounted when the host restarts. To continue using that file system, use a Windows

®

command to manually

mount it or assign a drive letter to it.
