(a) When Windows 2000 Telnet is used as remote operation terminal

The setting of a Windows 2000 Telnet’s line feed code must be changed on the screen
when the router is logged in using Windows 2000 Telnet. Set the line feed code with
the procedure below. Once the line feed code is set, the contents of the setting are
stored even if the power to the Windows 2000 terminal is off and on.

1. Activate Telnet supplied for Windows 2000 from the command prompt without an

option.

2. The Windows 2000 Telnet screen is displayed together with a prompt. Execute

unset CRLF.

Backup MC

The control program or configuration definition information of the router is stored in
MC. Therefore, the router cannot operate when MC fails. To make a rapid recovery
(replace a defective MC) during occurrence of an MC failure, it is recommended to
additionally purchase another MC as backup MC if two MCs have not been
purchased during ordering.

The operation shown in the table on the next page can also be performed if two MCs
are available.

Table 1-3 Operation using two MCs

Operation using

Description

Backup operation using
preliminary MC

Preliminary MC is used as backup MC when MC or an MC slot fails. In
this case, the change in configuration definition information must be
always reflected and must be made the same in terms of content.

Two-generation
management operation of
configuration definition
information

Two types of configuration definition information items are switched for
use. The configuration definition information is switched by changing the
setting of a preferred MC slot for activation with the different
configuration definition information put in MC of slots 0 and 1. In this
case, MC cannot be used as backup. This operation can be performed in
the version or later in which the preferred MC slot-specified function is
supported.

Two-generation
management operation of
software version

Two types of software versions are switched for use. The software
version is switched by changing the setting of a preferred MC slot for
activation with the different software version put in MC of slots 0 and 1.
In this case, MC cannot be used as backup. This operation can be
performed in the version or later in which the preferred MC slot-specified
function is supported.
